IODIZED SALT SPECIFICATIONS

1. SPECIFICATIONS:

General Description: The iodized salt shall be a crystalline product consisting mainly of Sodium Chloride (NaCl), obtained from sea salt, rock salt, or natural brine. It must be of healthy quality, fit for human consumption, dry, and free-running with uniform grain size.

2. TECHNICAL DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS:

When required, suppliers shall submit a Certificate of Analysis of the final product to UNRWA, along with other relevant documents.

3. FOOD SAFETY AND QUALITY MANAGEMENT:

Manufacturers must apply GMP, GHP, HACCP, and GFSI principles. UNRWA inspectors may visit facilities without prior notice during production to verify compliance with specifications and documentation.

4. PRODUCT SAFETY:

The product must be free from harmful substances such as heavy metals, pesticides, and mycotoxins. It must comply with Codex standards (CXS193-1995), MRLs, and EMRLs for contaminants and toxins in food.

5. PACKING:

Unit of packing as agreed in the contract.

6. STORING:

Iodized salt shall be stored under dry, ventilated, and hygienic conditions to preserve its quality and iodine content.

7. MARKING:

Marking shall comply with the special conditions of the contract.

8. SHELF LIFE:

Minimum 12 months with at least 80% of the shelf life remaining upon inspection.
